Google Droid by Motorola User Review

Here is my Motorola Google Droid review. Not sure if anyone cares for my review but here it is anyways. No more talking lets get to this!
External Review:
Here are some pics of the phone. The Motorola Google Droid is significantly bigger than my Blackberry Pearl. I had to get used to it in my pockets cause I was so used to the little pearl. It is pretty flat for having a pull out keyboard (selling point for me). The external keyboard is a little stiff when you first get the phone but once you start rocking on it the keys seem to get more comfortable and loose. I text message over 2k texts a month and that doesnt include Google Talk, AIM or Email. I have played with the iPhone screen texting and I hate it so the external keyboard was an easy transition from the Blackberry.

The screen resolution is perfect and I have had zero problems with scratching the screen (I was worried about that). When I was in college I used to party and my phones went through a great deal. Now that I am an old working NERD, I have learned not to drop phones so I cant really comment on the durability of the case.
The Motorola Google Droid has a removable battery which is always nice to have. I have had a problem where I keep knocking the battery cover off when pulling out of my pants. I would say it happens twice a week which isnt bad but I am kinda picky. It should be on there a little more cause I have had problems in the past breaking those things.
Software / OS Review:
PROS:
All you iPhone lovers are not going to agree with me but I tell things straight. The Motorola Google Droid is 10x faster than the iPhone. The processor/OS combo on this phone make is screaming fast. I have played with the iPhone a lot and it has nothing on this beast. I can go to the market place, dl an application, have it installed, and then loaded before my iPhone geek friends even have the market loaded. I have done it multiple times... People with iPhones have even commented on how fast it is when they play with it.
The OS (Android which is open source) is easy to navigate and once you get the hang of it (1.5 days for a developer NERD like myself) it is easy sailing. You can have 15+ applications running at once and you dont even notice it. The market place has 20 applications where you can control your running tasks. You can view whats running, shut programs down etc. I have been really impressed by the market place. It is very fast and easy to navigate. It breaks out all the applications by category and cost (Free or not).
If you would like to develop a free application it costs only $25 to have it added to the market place. The sdk is free and it seems very similiar to building a flex application but its java. I think the iPhone development is C# but I could be wrong. I have looked into developing applications during my free time (currently have none) but maybe someday you will see an application out of me.
CONS:
The market place doesnt have near as many applications as the iPhone. It is improving by the day but still needs some work. The iPhone dominates in the application market because it has been out longer. I wish I had some of the apps but hopefully they will come soon.
This is my second droid. The first one I bought was defective. I googled the problem with no luck and when I took it into the store they had no idea what the problem was and gave me a new one. Basically out of the blue, the screen became unresponsive. I took out the bettery 25 times and even did a factory restore without any luck. I have no idea why it happened and like I said googleing it showed 2 people with the same problem who just returned like I did. My Bro in Law is a manager at verizon and he even had not heard of it but it was still disheartening.
The camera is 5 MP with a flash which is AWESOME! I have taken some really quality pictures with it. The only problem is that the default phone application has a delay when trying to snap shots. I dont know if its the auto focus or the flash or what. It is a little annoying and I am in search for an application that is better than the default. I might even have to shell out a couple bucks for one.
Final Review:
I am very glad I got this phone and recommend to anyone. I like it better than the iPhone (F%&^ iTunes). Its fast and has all the bells and whistles of any phone. The setup and syncing of your contacts is so easy its dumb. WiFi, blue tooth, blah blah blah it has it all.
Time to stop procrastinating my leg workout. Flame away iPhone flamers cause this phone is better than you! ;)
